John is a senior associate in our Brisbane office and specialises in the resolution of banking and insolvency disputes. John has experience in personal and corporate insolvency, commercial litigation in both Federal and State Courts, professional negligence claims, public examinations, and farm debt mediation in Queensland and New South Wales. John has experience across many sectors including commercial, rural and residential property, hotels, retail, and mining services.
Most recently, John assisted court appointed receivers and managers with the conduct of a complex thirty-six day trial in the Supreme Court of New South Wales against persons and entities associated with the Anglican Church of Australia Diocese of Bathurst. John also advises the liquidators of Wickham Securities Limited, which company raised funds from investors via a prospectus and the issue of unsecured notes, on all aspects of the liquidation including recovery of the loan portfolio.
As part of HDY's Pro Bono program, John volunteers at the Self Representation Service established by the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House, providing discrete assistance to eligible applicants to represent themselves in civil litigation on foot or contemplated in the Federal Court of Australia and Federal Circuit Court of Australia.

John's recent experience
Assisting with the conduct of proceedings in the trial and appeal divisions of the Supreme Court of Queensland for recovery of possession of rural land, and to determine the ownership of dairy cattle, defended by vexatious litigants.
Assisting with the conduct of a complex thirty-six day trial in the Supreme Court of New South Wales involving ecclesiastical law, the law of guarantee, and professional negligence.
Assisting with the successful mediation of a valuer negligence claim in respect of a motel in NSW.
Advising the liquidators of Wickham Securities Limited on all aspects of the liquidation including the recovery of the loan portfolio.
Assisting the Bank to recover its outstanding debt at minimum cost including advising the Bank in respect of an application by a caveator for orders for a judicial sale of the Bank's real property security; and the commencement of proceedings by a prospective purchaser against the mortgagor for orders that the purchase price under a contract for sale of the Bank's real property security be reduced on completion due to the destruction of the residence by fire and for specific performance of the contract.
