Summer Clerk 2015/16
"...I felt like a valued person...the firm makes a conscious effort to create a collaborative, friendly culture"
I'm glad I clerked at HDY. I learnt a lot about the world of law and what being a young lawyer is like, while meeting a ton of interesting people. From start to finish I felt like a valued person, as I believe the firm makes a conscious effort to create a collaborative, friendly culture.
The clerkship recruitment process at HDY felt calibrated to make the application experience as painless as possible. For example, having had three hours to stew about the cocktail evening on the bus up from Canberra, I was grateful to be met in the firm’s lobby by my “buddy”, Brendon – a recent ex-clerk - who introduced me to people at the firm. This was a small thing but it made the evening a lot less daunting.
During my clerkship, HDY clerks rotated through three practice groups, whereas many other firms only offer two rotations. This was a big plus. I was able to meet more people and see the differences between the groups, which I think meant I was able to make a more informed decision about graduate rotation preferences. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting the work was, and it was really nice to be surrounded by smart, motivated people solving complex problems.
I highly recommend a summer clerkship at Henry Davis York.
