OPQ frequently asked questions
Why use Behavioural Assessments?
Behavioural Assessment provides information on an individual's preferred behaviours in a work context. There are no right or wrong answers. Your responses provide insights into where your likely strengths lie as well as your preferred work styles.
Our assessment questionnaire of choice is the Occupational Personality Questionnaire, (OPQ) which is widely used by many organisations.
How will the Behavioural Assessment help HDY learn more about me?
The Behavioural Assessment has been designed to help us understand the way you prefer to work. It will be considered in conjunction with other information such as your resume, work history, skills and interview.
Who will have access to my responses?
Your responses will be interpreted by a fully qualified and accredited psychologist who will provide the information to members of the People & Development team at HDY. Your responses are completely confidential, and information about you will not be revealed to anyone outside of HDY.
How will my responses be used?
Your responses to the questionnaire will help inform the questions you will be asked at your second round interview. This information will not be used to shortlist candidates but merely to tailor future stages of the recruitment process.
Will I be able to see my responses?
Everyone who completes the questionnaire will have the opportunity to receive feedback on their responses. This can be done over the phone with a fully qualified and accredited psychologist from our Behavioural Assessment provider. We leave the personal choice to each candidate to organise if she/he wishes to do so.
To ensure consistency in the process, you will need to wait until you are told the outcome of the recruitment process before requesting feedback on the questionnaire.
What does the assessment process involve?
Following the first round of interviews, we will contact you and let you know if you have been invited to complete the OPQ. You will then receive an email from our Behavioural Assessment provider with a link to complete the online questionnaire. The questionnaire is untimed, however as a guide it tends to take about 40-45 minutes to complete. You will be given full instructions at the start of the assessment.
How can I prepare?
There are no right or wrong answers. You need to answer the questions honestly in terms of how you see yourself at the present time. To familiarise yourself with the overall look and feel of the questionnaire we recommend you visit www.shldirect.com which provides sample questions similar to those you will be completing.
Choose a time and place to complete the questionnaire where you will be free from distractions and interruptions and you are able to concentrate fully.
What if I need special assistance?
If you need special assistance or have any disabilities which may need to be accommodated (eg dyslexia), please advise our Graduate Recruitment Manager, Carly Miles, as soon as possible so that we are able to make appropriate arrangements.
What if I have any other questions?
If you have any other questions about the Behavioural Assessment, please contact Carly Miles, Graduate Recruitment Manger, HDY on 61 2 9947 6532 or email@example.com.
