HDY partner appointed to International Insolvency Institute Board

15 June 2016

One of Australia's leading corporate insolvency and restructuring lawyers and partner at Henry Davis York, John Martin, has been appointed to the Board of the prestigious International Insolvency Institute (III).

The Institute is a non-profit, invitation-only, global association which, it states: "Attracts the most senior, experienced and respected practitioners, academics, judges and financial industry professionals in the world, dedicated to improving international cooperation in insolvency and focused on promoting greater international cooperation and coordination through improvements in the law and in legal procedures." Its current President is the Hon James Peck, former Judge of the US Bankruptcy Court who presided over the Lehman bankruptcy.

According to Managing Partner of HDY, Michael Greene: "John's appointment to the Board at the Institute's recent annual members' meeting is in no small part in recognition of his commitment to the III and his standing in the profession.

"With John's appointment, HDY is the only firm in Australia - and possibly the world - which holds Board seats on the peak international (III & INSOL) and domestic (the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association - ARITA) insolvency and restructuring associations."

Partner and Chair of the HDY Board, Scott Atkins, is an inaugural Fellow and a member of the Board of INSOL International and is also Vice President of ARITA. INSOL is the International Association of Restructuring, Insolvency & Bankruptcy Professionals, a world-wide federation of national associations for accountants and lawyers who specialise in turnaround and insolvency.

"John's appointment is a tribute to his wealth of experience and expertise in the area of corporate restructuring and insolvency, not just domestically but also on cross-border, international matters," Scott said.

"My appointment to the Board of the Institute is recognition of the overall strength and depth of Henry Davis York in this key area of corporate law," John commented.

"I look forward to making a contribution to the Institute as it continues its focus on promoting greater international cooperation and coordination in the insolvency and restructuring areas."
