HDY Celebrates International Women's Day 2017
HDY held its inaugural International Women's Day event in front of a capacity crowd in their Sydney Martin Place office. The theme of the event was in keeping with the global theme for International Women's Day 2017: #BeBoldForChange.
The session included a panel of speakers from across the community, the legal profession and key HDY clients. Anthony McGrath, Senior Counsel at NSW Bar and Chair of the Bar's Diversity & Equality Committee and Katrina Ironside, Director of the Immigration and Rights Centre (IARC) were among the group tasked with providing their perspectives on what being bold for change looks like in their environment.
MC'd by HDY Partner Kathy Merrick, the discussion was both inspiring and thought provoking. Among the items discussed were the National Equitable Briefing Policy (recently launched by the NSW Bar Association to increase opportunity for and retention of women barristers) and the pro bono work HDY is undertaking with IARC to support and protect vulnerable migrant women in Australia.
Proceedings were wrapped up by Simon McSweeney, co-chair of HDY's Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Chairman of Partners. He issued a call to action to all present to visit the International Women's Day website to see what each individual can do to pledge to #BeBoldForChange when it comes to the issue of gender equality.
