Environment & Planning

Henry Davis York has one of the largest and most experienced environment & planning practices in NSW. We have a strong track record supporting clients in all areas of contaminated land, pollution, property development and planning, litigation, valuation and compulsory acquisition.

We are proud to have worked with clients on a range of major transformation projects matters, including the relocation of the Powerhouse Museum ($2b) for Property NSW, the Sydney Science Park project for Celestino property group in Western Sydney ($5b) and the Northern Road Upgrade Project for RMS ($1.6b). We are also honoured to have acted in most of the major contaminated land cases in NSW, including in Jeffman and Lawrence Dry Cleaners v New South Wales Environment Protection Authority, the first case that dealt with an appeal against a Management Order under the NSW Contaminated Land Management Act 1997. We have also acted in major compulsory acquisition cases including the largest ever claim brought by a landowner in Australia.

We have a strong reputation for partnering with financial services and government sector clients, trusted by notable domestic and international clients, including:

  • Property developers, owners and managers – Cromwell Property Group, Dexus, DHL, Exide, GPT, Investa, Lennox International and Pentair
  • Property investors – ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, NAB and Westpac on property lending matters
  • Government – Department of Defence, Department of Environment and Energy, Department of Finance, Services and Innovation, Department of Planning and Environment, Property NSW, RMS, Sydney Trains, Transport for NSW, Urban Growth NSW.
