Michael is our Managing Partner. He is also one of our top litigators and is recognised as a expert in this field by his clients and peers alike. Over his 22 years at HDY, he has held many leadership roles and has been instrumental in shaping the firm to where it is today.

As Managing Partner, Michael leads the firm's Executive Team and is responsible for the strategic direction of the firm, the high quality of the service provided to our clients and the well being of all staff, working in close consultation with the firm's Board.

Michael has been a member of the HDY family for over 22 years, and during that time has held many other leadership roles, including as a member of the Board, Leader of the firm's Dispute Resolution practice and Head of the firm's Government Sector practice. Michael has been instrumental in formulating and implementing sector, client and performance strategies which have strengthened our firm.

As one of our top litigators, Michael has acted for public and private sector clients in the government, financial services, and other corporate sectors. His clients call upon him to advise them on disputes concerning contracts, tendering and procurement, fraud, intellectual property, directors and shareholders, corporate governance, administrative law, statutory duties and interpretation, road transport law, regulation and enforcement and issues concerning privilege and confidentiality.

Michael specialises in advising and appearing for government clients in statutory inquiries including several significant ICAC inquiries, a judicial inquiry, WorkCover investigations and a large number of coronial inquests.

One of the most significant matters of his career was representing the New South Wales Police Force in relation to the Special Commission of Inquiry into matters relating to the police investigation of certain sexual abuse allegations in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland - Newcastle and in relation to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Michael is also renowned for his expertise in road transport law and he regularly advises Roads and Maritime Services in relation to enforcement and prosecution matters.

In the private sector, Michael advises clients on their dealings with corporate regulators such as ASIC and the ACCC, and in substantial contractual disputes, often involving multiple parties and complex project documentation, and trade practices matters.

Michael is listed by Chambers Asia-Pacific as a "Leader in the Field" of government. He is a CEO Ambassador for the Workplace Gender Equality Agency's national pay equity campaign and a non-executive director of Streetwork, a Sydney based charity which provides support for "at risk" young people.
