Jillian leads the firm's bono practice with a particular focus on developing strategic and collaborative solutions to address unmet legal need and systemic changes in the law that impact marginalised and disadvantaged individuals and communities.
Prior to becoming the firm's dedicated pro bono leader, Jillian practiced as a senior lawyer for a strategic animal rights program, a defence lawyer for children in juvenile justice and a commercial litigator for a large firm.
Jillian's recent experience
Law Reform Hub (LRHub)
Jillian developed the Law Reform Hub, a project focused on providing pro bono resources to support community legal centres and not for profit organisations engaged in state and federal policy and reform advocacy.
The project is driven by legal research and storytelling ensuring the voices of the marginalised, disadvantaged community members are delivered constructively at the critical point of legislative review.
Henry Davis York collaborates with Colin Biggers Paisley, Landers and Rogers and Hall Willcox in the delivery of this project.
Jillian co-chairs the firms LGTBIQ Committee (HDY Pride) with a focus on developing collaborative pro bono responses to this community. Jillian facilitated collaborative research projects for both the Human Rights Commissions and Human Rights Law Centre on marriage equality and birth certificate reform for intersex communities.
These collaborations have been shortlisted for the Financial Times awards for innovation in social responsibility for Human Rights & Equality Programs for LGTBIQ.
