Andrew is a senior associate with 11 years’ experience in litigation, dispute resolution and regulatory inquiries. He has also practised in-house for Australia’s corporate, markets and financial services regulator.

Andrew has advised clients in the financial services, Government, construction, telecommunications and resources sectors. He has considerable experience in the resolution of claims prior to litigation, as well as performing a leadership role in conducting large scale litigation involving complex issues.

His key skills include:
  • the ability to understand and effectively communicate complex legislation, regulatory requirements, case law and contractual provisions to senior management;
  • the recognition and effective management of legal and commercial risks;
  • significant project management experience including the coordination and management of large-scale document productions, including subpoenas, discovery and regulatory notices; and
  • in-house experience at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), providing a unique insight into the drivers for regulatory action.
Andrew has acted for clients in hearings in the Federal Court of Australia, Supreme Courts of New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, as well as arbitral proceedings, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution processes.

Andrew 's Recent Experience

Class Actions

Representing the Australian and parent companies of the Volkswagen and Audi groups defending five class actions in relation to the diesel emissions issue in the Federal Court of Australia.

Government disputes

Significant experience in disputes for and against all levels of Government, including the Department of Defence, the Department of Communications and Sydney City Council.

Construction disputes

Experience in numerous construction disputes including contested litigation relating to building defects in the Supreme Court of NSW. Advised and acted for clients on payment claims, arbitrations, extensions of time, variations and liquidated damages.

Regulatory investigations and public inquiries

Assisting clients to prepare for ASIC examinations, ATO investigations, ICAC hearings, Parliamentary Inquiries and Special Commissions of Inquiry. Acting for both regulators and entities subject to regulatory investigations and advises on strategies to effectively deal with regulators and enforcement action.

Financial services disputes

Experience in advising and conducting financial services disputes, including the recovery of stolen funds by identity theft and the fraudulent misappropriation of funds by a former employee.
