Peter advises the public and private sector on a broad range of projects involving complex contractual arrangements. He has particular expertise acting for NSW government agencies, statutory authorities, commercial and technology clients.
Peter recently advised a NSW Government agency on its legal compliance program. This included a review of the functions and powers of the agency, developing a register of key legal obligations and potential "gaps" or issues in compliance, and preparing a compliance program for the agency to monitor, review, report and audit compliance. The program was designed to conform with AS 3806-2006 (Australian Standard on Compliance Programs), AS 4360-2004 (Australian Standard on Risk Management) and relevant international standards.
He also advised Global Television, the leading provider of outside broadcast services for the Australian television industry, on its agreement to design, install and operate the international broadcast centre (IBC) for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. This included advising on the tender by the Indian broadcaster (Doordarshan), drafting and negotiating the agreement with the on-the-ground Indian partner (Shaf Broadcast) for the design, installation and operation of the IBC, and the agreement to procure and install the equipment and facilities to support the broadcast of the Commonwealth Games in Australia by the local rights holders (Ten and FOXTEL).
Peter regularly presents to clients on complex contractual issues, including indemnities, the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW), limitations and exclusions of liability, the law of penalties, remoteness and mitigation and consumer law. He is the co-author of a regular bi-monthly column on contract law in the Law Society Journal.
