Nicholas is one of Australia's leading environmental lawyers. He is a strategist and adviser in all areas of property, planning, environmental and valuation law and represents clients in disputes pertaining to the environment and related issues.

Widely recognised as an expert in his field, Nicholas is listed as a leading environment lawyer in major independent legal directories. He has a PhD in planning and environmental law and lectures at the University of Sydney and University of New South Wales.

Nicholas is a trusted adviser to ten government agencies along with major financial institutions, mining and construction companies, property developers and fund managers.

His expertise includes estimate change law and policy, strategic planning advice, negotiating with consent authorities, advising on major projects, advising on contaminated land matters, dealing with pollution investigations and prosecutions and preparing environmental legal risk management programs and systems including training, seminars and drafting legal risk management tools and guidelines.

He is a recognised leading practitioner in all aspects of valuation and compensation law and acts for a wide range of State Government agencies and landowners, including conducting class 3 litigation in the Land and Environment Court. He also represents clients in planning appeals in the Land and Environment Court and defends prosecutions for air, water and marine pollution offences.

An active commentator in his field, Nicholas has published over 20 articles on environmental and planning law.
