Kat specialises in contentious and non-contentious corporate insolvency and restructuring matters, having advised a wide range of clients including insolvency practitioners, Australian and international banks, investors, and financially distressed companies.
Her expertise covers receiverships, voluntary administrations and liquidations, and the implementation of deeds of company arrangement, creditors trusts and schemes of arrangement. Kat's industry-specific insolvency experience includes investment banking, finance and leasing, funds management, insurance and re-insurance, commercial property, transport, infrastructure and SMEs.
Significant matters Kat has advised on include:
- the liquidations of Babcock & Brown Limited, Lehman Brothers Australia Limited and Octaviar group companies
- the first successful application for inbound recognition of a foreign main proceeding under the Cross Border Insolvency Act 2008 (Cth) (UNCITRAL Model Law), and
- the debt for equity restructuring of Alinta Energy, effected through a complex scheme of arrangement.
Kat also has experience negotiating, documenting and advising in relation to finance transactions, including bilateral, syndicated and club financing, leverage buy-outs and securitisation structures. At her previous firm, Kat was seconded to an international investment and corporate bank for three months to fill the role of in-house Corporate Banking lawyer.
