Matthew has extensive experience as a commercial lawyer, specialising in technology and communications, e-commerce, intellectual property and privacy/data protection. He has practised in both New South Wales and the United Kingdom.
Matthew advises on large-scale outsourcing and managed services initiatives, technology infrastructure projects (including the deployment and upgrade of IT and networked systems), cloud computing and virtualisation initiatives, and ICT and business process procurement arrangements. He also advises on technology commercialisation, licensing and distribution projects and e-commerce ventures, including in relation to payment systems.
His clients include a number of leading financial institutions, public sector organisations and blue chip corporates across a wide range of industries including IT, communications, financial services, gaming and transport and infrastructure.
Matthew's recent experience includes advising a leading Australian Bank in relation to the replacement and upgrade of its entire ATM network across Australia. The project involved the procurement of a complete ATM end-to-end service - including the acquisition and roll out of a new fleet of ATMs that meet the EMV standard for chip-enabled cards, together with testing and commissioning services, through to support and maintenance services, security and incident monitoring services and ATM managed services.
He has acted on a diverse range of IT projects in financial services sector. This includes negotiating an agreement for the deployment of an institutional equities trading platform to enable transaction bookings, clearing and settlement processing. His media experience includes advising a major Australian Bank on the procurement of strategy and media-related services associated with the launch and ongoing promotion of a new Bank brand.
He has been a trusted adviser to Sydney Airport on a number of significant IT and combined IT and infrastructure projects, including the deployment of a self-service check-in facility and an upgrade of the airport's control and monitoring system for aeronautical ground lighting.
He has advised MasterCard in relation to the establishment of an independent payment processing business. He has also been called upon to advise the receivers of Commander Communications on a range of telecommunications issues arising out of the receivership, including re-negotiating a number of major IT agreements with the Federal Government and re-negotiating wholesale telecommunications agreements with carriers.
