John has over 20 years' experience in financial markets and derivatives regulation, acting for exchanges, banks, brokers and overseas participants.
John has worked on some of the most substantial and ground-breaking matters in these areas, including the establishment of a new futures market for Australia, obtaining regulatory approval for the Australian operations of one of the world's major futures exchanges, and providing the Australian opinion on master netting agreements to a European futures industry association and its members.
Recently John and his team have worked on legal issues relating to clearance and settlement of derivatives including credit default swaps and the recent restrictions on short-selling and stock lending.
John is the author of the leading text Australian Futures Regulation which is widely referenced in industry and academic circles in Australia.
John is a part-time lecturer in law at the University of Sydney and has led the LLM program in Regulation of Derivatives Products and Markets for many years.
