Gwyn advises clients on the full spectrum of environmental and planning laws. This includes environmental assessments for State significant development and infrastructure, having carriage of environmental judicial review and merit appeal litigation, pollution and environmental protection licensing matters, contaminated land management and compulsory acquisition-related valuation matters, including litigation.

Gwyn has acted for various private and public sector clients such as Lend Lease, Woolworths, Leighton Contractors, the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), RailCorp, TransGrid, the NSW Department of Planning, Sydney Ports Corporation and the NSW Police Force.

Gwyn's public sector experience also includes two secondments to the Legal Branch of the RTA in 2008-2009 and 2011 respectively, during which time he played a key role in managing the unique cross section of environmental issues to face the Legal Branch. Gwyn was also briefly seconded to the NSW Department of Transport in 2010.

Recent projects in which Gwyn has been involved include:

  • advising developers on the negotiation of voluntary planning agreements with City of Sydney Council and Orange City Council
  • acting for a government agency in a compulsory acquisition litigation in the Land and Environment Court on the outcome of which up to $60 million in compensation to various land owners turned
  • acting for a large developer in two Court proceedings on the $6 billion development of the Barangaroo site in the Sydney CBD, and 
  • advising a government agency on town planning and valuation issues in connection with a multi million dollar acquisition for a public purpose in Western Sydney.
