Liz is a specialist in all areas of environmental law, with particular expertise managing issues related to contaminated land. Her clients include large manufacturing companies, government agencies, listed property trusts and property developers.
Liz's principal area of specialisation is contaminated land and remediation law. She advises on all legal and strategic aspects associated with contaminated land, including negotiating the sale and purchase of contaminated sites and obtaining planning and environmental approvals for the remediation and development of contaminated land.
Liz regularly advises on environmental due diligence, licensing and compliance issues and pollution law, as well as drafting and implementing environmental management systems.
Liz provides environmental and planning advice to a wide range of clients. Recently this has included securing environmental and planning approvals for a significant contaminated site at Homebush Bay, advising Amcor on the subdivision of its Botany Mill site and the subsequent sale of surplus land, and acting for the applicant in a landmark Federal Court contaminated land litigation against a major oil company (Charben Haulage Pty Ltd v Environment & Earth Sciences and Caltex). Liz also acted for Marrickville Council on the sale of Tempe Tip, including the drafting and negotiation of an Environmental Deed apportioning liability for the remediated and partially remediated portions of Tempe Tip.
Liz is described as "firm, practical, pragmatic and determined" and named one of Australia's leading environment lawyers in Australian Legal Business, March 2009. She is a recognised expert in Environmental Law in Chambers Asia Pacific 2012 and 2011.
