Catherine's extensive insurance law expertise covers all aspects of public and product liability, professional indemnity, catastrophic claims and life insurance claims (TPD, IP, personal accident and sickness, and group life policies). Catherine regularly advises insurers on policy interpretation.
Catherine advises life insurers on non-disclosure and misrepresentation issues, as well as policy coverage. She has defended claims for insurers in NSW, including in the Court of Appeal. She also drafts submissions on behalf of insurers to FOS. Catherine has also advised life insurers on the availability of remedies under the ICA for particular policy wordings. Her clients include Westpac Life Insurance Services Limited, Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited and Macquarie Life, as well as trustees.
Catherine also has extensive experience acting for professional indemnity insurers. Catherine acted in one of the longest running Supreme Court trials for a psychologist who conducted a leadership training course. Other recent matters in which Catherine has been involved include acting for an engineer in respect of a development in Wollongong and acting for a real estate agent in relation to alleged misrepresentations made by the agent.
Catherine regularly presents at seminars on life and general insurance topics, and in February 2010 presented to ALUCA on accidental death policies.
Catherine has a high rate of success in resolving matters using ADR techniques, including mediation.
