Alex is a structured capital markets, restructuring and receivables finance expert, experienced in debt capital markets finance domestically (wholesale and retail) and offshore, including in the United States, Europe, Hong Kong and New Zealand.
Alex also applies his structured finance skills to assist clients of Henry Davis York's insolvency and restructuring practice, and was the firm's lead partner advising the administrators/liquidators of the Fincorp group on the realisation of its real estate and financial assets through a structured portfolio sale. He has also advised major domestic banks in relation to the restructuring of the debt facilities to the Allco group (Australian Legal Business Insolvency and Restructuring Deal of the Year 2009) and in relation to exposures to the Timbercorp group, Commander Communications and Sunshine Electricity. Recently, Alex advised a major international aircraft leasing business on the restructuring and sale of its US$1.2billion aircraft leasing portfolio and an international real estate fund on its acquisition from the Lloyds group of a A$700million portfolio of non-performing loans backed by Queensland real estate.
Alex has also advised on various aspects of the cross-border insolvency of Lehman Brothers, including advising Perpetual Limited in its successful proceedings in the English High Court and the Court of Appeal against Lehman Brothers to enforce priority and subordination arrangements in the Lehman $US10billion 'Dante' credit linked note program.
Alex is recommended in Banking and Debt Capital Markets in PLC Which Lawyer? 2011. He is also listed as having 'deep experience in the market, and a very commercially driven attitude' by Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2012), a 'Leading Lawyer' in Banking by IFLR1000 2011 and a 'Recommended' lawyer in Doyles Guide to The Australian Legal Profession.
