John Evans
John heads our Banking, Restructuring and Insolvency group, one of Australia's largest, with sixteen partners and 60 professionals practising exclusively in this area. He has specialised in acting for banks, financial institutions and insolvency professionals for over 20 years.
John has worked on a large number of prominent corporate collapses and restructurings, both nationally and internationally, including Burns Philp, Ansett, HIH, Hagemeyer, Alstom, North Sydney Rugby League Football Club, King Bros Bus Group, Ion, Pasminco and Henry Walker Eltin.
He is recognised both nationally and internationally as one of Australia's leading insolvency lawyers. Chambers Global - The World's Leading Lawyers 2006/07 ranks John in the top 10 Australian Insolvency/Corporate Recovery Lawyers and describes him as a "leading restructuring and insolvency lawyer who specialises in advising on all legal aspects arising from corporate distress and collapse". John is also described as a "Leading Individual" in Restructuring and Insolvency by The Asia Pacific Legal 500 2007/08. PLC Which Lawyer? 2008 lists John as a "Recommended Individual" in the area of Restructuring and Insolvency. John is also listed as a "Leading Lawyer" in the 2008 IFLR1000 Rankings in the area of Restructuring and Insolvency.
John is co-editor of the Banking Practice section of the Journal of Banking and Finance Law and Practice.
He is also a member of the International Bar Association, of the Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia, a Board member and on the Planning Committee of the Banking & Financial Services Law Association, of INSOL International, a global association of insolvency practitioners, of the Risk Management Association, and of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Australia.
