Donna Short
Donna specialises in intellectual property law and technology, advising both Australian and international clients on intellectual property identification, protection and commercialisation.
Donna’s work includes advising clients on global trade mark strategies, trade mark portfolio management and registrability issues, IP infringement claims, pursuing trade mark opposition proceedings and drafting a broad range of IP agreements covering the licensing and commercialisation of IP rights. Donna also advises clients in areas such as domain name disputes, privacy and data protection, anti-counterfeiting and media and entertainment.
Donna’s practice covers both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters. Her clients include IT companies, banks, pharmaceutical companies and major retail chains.
Donna's recent work includes providing intellectual property advice to a number of receivers and liquidators in respect of the restructuring and sale of IP assets; acting on behalf of an international bank in respect of the rebranding of the bank in Australia as a result of a takeover; assisting an international pharmaceutical company in respect of trade mark matters in a number of Asia Pacific countries and other intellectual property issues as part of a global corporate restructure; assisting an ASX listed broadband and telephone service provider with strategic trade mark advice on new product launches; and conducting intellectual property audits for clients including Australian Government departments.
In February 2009, Donna was nominated as a leading IP lawyer in the Australian Legal Business Guide for intellectual property.
Donna regularly presents on IP legal issues. In March 2009, Donna presented on the topic of Maximising and Managing IP Assets in Difficult Times" at a seminar hosted by the Commercial Law Association.
Donna is an active member of the International Trade Mark Association (INTA), the Licensing Executive Society of Australia and New Zealand (LESANZ), the Copyright Society of Australia, the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ), the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and the New South Wales Society for Computers and the Law.
